Copy Options (What to Copy)

/E (Copy Subdirectories, Including Empty) Copies subdirectories, including empty ones. This is typically the default behavior you want.

/S (Copy Subdirectories, Excluding Empty) Copies subdirectories, but excludes any directories that are empty. Use `/E` instead if you need empty ones.

/MIR (Mirror - CAUTION!) Mirrors a directory tree. **Deletes files/folders in the destination that do not exist in the source.** Use with extreme care. Includes `/E` and `/PURGE`.

/PURGE (Delete - CAUTION!) Deletes destination files/folders that no longer exist in the source. Less comprehensive than `/MIR`. Use with caution.

/Z (Restartable Mode) Copies files in restartable mode. If the copy is interrupted, it can be resumed later. Good for large files over unreliable connections.

/B (Backup Mode) Runs Robocopy in Backup mode. This allows copying files that the current user doesn't have permission to read (requires Backup Operator privilege).

/DCOPY:T (Copy Directory Timestamps) Copies the directory timestamps. By default, Robocopy does not preserve folder timestamps.

File Selection (Filter which files are copied)

/XF (Exclude Files) Excludes files matching the specified names or paths. Separate multiple names with a space (e.g., *temp.txt Thumbs.db).

/XD (Exclude Directories) Excludes directories matching the specified names or paths. Separate multiple names with a space (e.g., C:\Temp "Recycle Bin").

/MAX:n (Maximum File Size) Excludes files greater than *n* bytes. Only files smaller than this size will be copied.

/MIN:n (Minimum File Size) Excludes files smaller than *n* bytes. Only files larger than this size will be copied.

/XC (Exclude Changed Files) Excludes existing files that have been changed (different timestamps or file sizes).

/XN (Exclude Newer Files) Excludes existing destination files that are newer than the source file. Prevents overwriting newer destination files.

/XO (Exclude Older Files) Excludes existing destination files that are older than the source file. This is the default behavior if not specified.

/L (List Only) **ONLY list files** that would be copied. Does NOT copy, delete, or timestamp any files. Highly recommended for testing your command!

Logging and Output Options

/LOG:file (Write Log File - New) Writes the status output to a log file, **overwriting** any existing file.

/LOG+:file (Write Log File - Append) Writes the status output to a log file, **appending** to the existing file.

/V (Verbose Output) Produces verbose output, including skipped files. Provides more detail on the operation.

/TS (Include Source File Timestamps) Includes the source file timestamp in the output for better tracking.

/FP (Include Full Path Names) Includes the full pathnames of files in the output.

/NJH (No Job Header) Doesn't write the job header (the column names) to the output. Useful for clean logging.

/NJS (No Job Summary) Doesn't write the job summary (the final statistics) to the output. Useful for clean logging.

Retry and Performance Tuning

/R:n (Number of Retries) Number of retries on failed copies. Default is 1,000,000. Set to 0 to disable retries.

/W:n (Wait Time Between Retries) Wait time between retries, in seconds. Default is 30 seconds.

/MT:n (Multi-Threaded Copy) Creates multi-threaded copies with *n* threads (1-128). This can dramatically speed up the copy process. Default is 8.

/IS (Include Same Files) Includes the same files (same size and time) in the copy. Forces a copy of unchanged files.

/IT (Include Tweaked Files) Includes "tweaked" files (files with attributes changed, but not contents).

Miscellaneous & Advanced Options

Add PAUSE to Batch Script Simply adds the PAUSE command on the line immediately following the robocopy command. This keeps the console window open after execution to view the output.

/CREATE (Create Directory/File Structure) Creates directory tree and zero-length files only. Does not copy file contents. Useful for quickly recreating a folder structure.

/NOOWNER (Don't Copy Owner Info) Prevents Robocopy from copying the Owner security information of files.

/NOGRP (Don't Copy Group Info) Prevents Robocopy from copying the Group security information of files.

/NODAT (Don't Copy File Data) Copies file attributes, security, and timestamps, but **no file data**. Useful for permissions updates.

/TBD (Wait for Share Names) Specifies that Robocopy will wait for share names defined as a TBD (To Be Defined) status.
